My morning was sort of funny today. I left the house without a smoothie and without coffee. I stopped at Honey Dew Donuts and ordered a medium iced coffee with milk and (in all caps as I was ordering) NO SUGAR, please. I was so thankful to have an iced coffee on my ride to work today! Now that I am thinking of it, I might make some coffee tonight and put it in the refrigerator tonight for iced coffee tomorrow. Who knows, that seems like a lot of effort right now.
At nine o’clock this morning I got my breakfast prepared thanks to the staff toaster oven this morning:
I ate an entire banana, a whole grain English muffin and a good helping of Whole Foods chunky peanut butter. It was pretty grand. At 11:30 this morning I had a Greek yogurt. At 12:15 my crazy friends and I tried to go for a walk. We were outside for 20 minutes, maybe more and we walked less than a mile. It took us so long because we were slugs along the walking path. Our walking path is right on the water – I cannot even imagine what it would be like if we were walking in downtown Boston. Walking back into the air conditioning was a beautiful thing today. We did receive some cheers (and crazy looks) from our colleagues – people were pretty surprised that we tried to get our exercise in outside today.
It was a little hard to eat lunch today. The heat had taken my appetite away pretty quickly and completely. Finally at 1:15 this afternoon I pieced together a few things to eat.
An apple with more peanut butter (but less than a tablespoon this time – I had a feeling I was close to overdosing on peanut butter today – this is a very hard thing for me to accomplish, and it is not a good thing!)
Along with a Babybel cheese and some Kashi whole grain crackers:
I also consumed a lot of water. (Obviously.)
I have to say, this lunch was actually pretty good and I appreciated how nice and light it was. At 2:30 this afternoon some colleagues and I gathered to wish one of our graduate student interns well in her new adventures, and I had a very small piece of cake as part of the celebration.
The heat made it hard for me to get excited about exercising tonight. Of course running outside was out of the question. I had no desire to go to the gym. So instead I went home. I enjoyed a big glass of lemon seltzer with a lot of ice and a few big and fresh strawberries. Eventually I made dinner:
A pretty decent salad with peppers, tomato, cucumbers, croutons, turkey, carrots, lettuce and spinach. I also enjoyed a piece of rustic bread that I toasted in the toaster oven with half a piece of Swiss cheese on top. Yum. I had things to make a homemade pizza or pasta, but cooking was simply out of the question. The salad was fresh and cold:
I am so very excited to enjoy some frozen Greek yogurt tonight for dessert with some Trader Joe’s organic chocolate sauce on top. (Doesn’t that sound superb on a hot summer’s evening???)
Currently I am reading As Always, Julia: The Letters of Julia Child & Avis DeVoto. I am loving this book! Some nights I only have a chance to read right before bed, but every night I get into bed excited to read a few pages of this book. I love that Julia and Avis spend letters discussing knives and recipes! During work today, I wished that I was at home (or in an air conditioned Starbucks!) reading the book. As I was driving home I had a brilliant idea – make dinner and watch one of my favorite movies, Julie & Julia….
And that is what I’m doing right now. So, I’m going to wrap up and enjoy my movie and my book – oh, and my food! See you tomorrow, bloggies!
