Hey All –
Did you know that September is Better Breakfast Month? Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. You must start your day off with breakfast or your body and brain will start slowing down due to lack of ‘fuel’ (aka food). A lot of people I know do not particularly like eating food first thing after waking up, and I must admit I am one of those people! But after about an hour of being up, I am able to have a meal…
The key to your first meal of the day is not only eating in the morning, but eating a well balanced meal. It is important to have fiber, protein, and even some carbs into your breakfast.
I figured for the first few days of September it would be good to concentrate on breakfast. Here are a few ideas for a fairly well balanced meal!
– oatmeal, yogurt, walnuts and fresh berries
– yogurt, 1 piece of whole wheat toast, 1 tablespoon of almond butter, berries
– yogurt, fruit, ground flax seed
– high fiber cereal, skim milk, fruit
– whole wheat english muffin, almond butter, 1/2 a sliced banana, 6 ounces of skim milk
– hard boiled egg, 1 slice of whole wheat toast, blueberries
For breakfast this Labor Day I decided to have a well balanced meal! I had one egg (cooked in a teaspoon of soy free Earth balance), one piece of whole wheat toast (plain), and fruit (blueberries and three strawberries). I had a few dabs of tabasco sauce on the eggs!
For my breakfast tomorrow I have already started the prep work…. over night oats with berries and ground flax. The over night oats mixture is 1/3 cup rolled oats, 1/3 cup Stoneyfield yogurt and 1/3 cup skim milk.
This morning I also had a glass of iced coffee with 1/3 cup of chocolate soy milk. It was a fantastic combo and really went well with my breakfast.
This morning I set my alarm clock so that I would get up at a fairly decent hour (at least considering it was a vacation day!) My alarm went off at 8:30 and I was up at 8:45… After breakfast I packed my beach bag and headed off to the beach for an awesome day by the ocean.
I hope you all had a great Labor Day!
