Ok, so last week I tried to get my butt back in gear after the half marathon. There were so many things I had to do at work and after work, I just could not seem to find the time to go to the gym unless it was 9 o’clock at night, and last week I was falling asleep around 8:45 every night – so that was not working either.
Finally one of my (super smart) friends suggested that I give myself a Glory Week and just celebrate the accomplishment of running the half marathon. I was all for that. So, last week I accomplished as much in my non-exercise life as I could, got a ton of sleep every night (eight hours or more!) and it was pretty great. Of course in the back of my head I had a nagging voice saying, you should be at the gym right now, but I did my best to ignore it.
On Friday I went up to Maine with friends. We had no mobile phone service and just a little bit of e-mail capability. It was nice and weird – but the cold mountain air was SO refreshing. I slept so well, had a great time, and came back to work on Monday feeling refreshed. (On a side note – there were also a lot of potato chips consumed during this trip – I also arrived to work on Monday with a lot of healthy food and I was eager to get back on track.)
Monday meant that my Glory Week was officially over.
I started off with a breakfast of Greek yogurt. This kept me going until lunch time. I took a brisk walk with Katherine for 30 minutes and then went to grab my lunch. I had half of a peanut butter and jam sandwich (brought from home) and a small soup from the caf (Italian wedding soup). At 3:45 I had a Luna bar as my afternoon snack.
I left work a few minutes after 4 and drove directly to the gym. There I did 35 minutes on the elliptical on resistance levels 10 and 11. A 2 minute cool down on level 7.
Then I was off to Whole Foods to pick up groceries for the week. Salad, fresh vegetables, mini baguette, black beans (I’m using those for dinner next week – trying to plan ahead) and a small Annie’s salad dressing that I can leave at work. (I am so celebrating being down to one office at work now!)
I got home and my mom was in the middle of preparing an amazing meal which was just perfect since it was 6:45 already. I hopped in the shower, changed and came down to a dinner of scallops, rice pilaf and salad. It was beautiful and it tasted so good! We each had three scallops which to me was the perfect serving:
Dinner was amazing. I then spent the next hour and a half in the kitchen making a soup. More on that later. The soup only took about half an hour to make. Then I chopped vegetables, made a salad and put together all the different components to lunch for Tuesday. (Which will be reported on soon.)
I’m off. Have a great day everyone!
