On Wednesday night I was lucky enough to go out for a great meal with two of my best friends and my mom. It was a night of great cuisine and even better company. We went to one of my favorite local restaurants in Jamaica Plain, which just happens to be right down the street from my friends’ house.
Vee Vee is an absolutely wonderful place located at 763 Centre Street in Jamaica Plain (a neighborhood of Boston…) I have been to Vee Vee twice, and I just cannot say enough about it. Most of the ingredients are from local farms and vendors. You can taste the difference. I just love how all of the flavors in whatever you order are so different, but work so well together. It is simply amazing. If you live in the Boston area, I highly recommend heading out to Vee Vee one night for a meal. (Make sure to call ahead for a reservation! It’s an intimate venue 🙂 )
On this night I ordered a plate with tofu (again!) The menus are seasonal, and because I do not get to Vee Vee as often as I would like to, the dinner menu is usually different every time I go. The last time I went out with my friends, I ordered a tofu dinner and it was amazing. This past week I went with the tofu option again – even though there were so many excellent choices…
My tofu was mole encrusted, with black beans, fried sweet potato, and the most amazing mango avocado salsa with mixed greens to top everything off. I had not eaten much and we were sitting down to dinner rather late – but somehow I ended up taking about a fourth of my amazing meal home with me that night.
Once again, the flavors in this meal were simply amazing.
Another big hit of the evening was the mushroom ragu… this was a mixture of crimini, maitake, and oyster mushrooms with farro (a whole grain) and edamame mixed in. The amazing concoction was topped with a fresh farm egg… to die for! I had two tastes of this dish. I was definitely thinking about ordering the mushroom heaven of a meal, but two others at the table were ordering it, so I wanted to add a bit of diversity to the meal.

Even though we all had a lot of food on our plates, we did decide to order dessert. The menu was amazing, and there were two things that caught our collective eye….
The menu:
We decided to all share the Polynesian vanilla bean pot au creme with the delicate chocolate cookies and the amazing chocolate brioche bred pudding. The vanilla was my favorite, but they were both amazing.

Bread Pudding:
All in all it was a spectacular evening of food and friendship. If you are in the Boston area – definitely swing by Vee Vee for a meal – you will not regret it!
These dishes look amazing. I wouldn’t know where to start! I love bread pudding and haven’t had it for years. I used to make it–sometimes in the crockpot, but I’m sure it was nothing like you had!
