Run and a Reward

Sunday’s recap:

Since yesterday’s run was so horrible, I made an effort to get my butt in gear a little earlier this morning. I set my alarm for 7:55 and eventually got out of bed by 8:20. I ate half a banana, had a small cup of coffee and was out on the trail by 10:30 this morning. Not super early, but a bit better than 11:30 yesterday.

Today I ran 5 miles. It was still hot as heck out there, and although when I woke up it was a little cloudy – the moment I started off on my run the clouds cleared and the sun came out making it even hotter. The meteorologists said the weather out there was more like August rather than Memorial day temperatures. I can only hope that the temperatures will eventually go back down to spring time weather.

Although the run was hot and rather disgusting, it was not quite as bad as the day before – so I was pleased to see progress. Leaving an hour earlier definitely made a difference, and perhaps my body was adjusting to the heat. I really do not want to be forced to run on the treadmill all summer. That would be horrible.

After my run I went home and made an amazing smoothie:


In the mix:

1/3 cup plain yogurt

1 handful of ice cubes

1/2 T chia seeds

1/2 T ground flax seeds

1 handful of fresh blueberries

1/2 a banana

1 T PB2 (powdered peanut butter)

1/2 a scoop of protein powder

This smoothie was amazing and oh so refreshing. It was the perfect reward for finishing my run!

Later in the day my mom and I went out for ice cream (I condsider this my lunch). I had a peanut butter hard frozen yogurt cone which was wonderful. It was in the upper 80s and the frozen yogurt was just so refreshing. My mom had a coconut chocolate chip ice cream waffle cone. I had a taste and it was amazing.

Before dinner last night I snacked on a few whole wheat crackers, carrots and garlic hummus. Dinner was once again on the grill last night. We grilled chicken and vegetable skewers, and the left over vegetable medley from the night before. I also made my own version of dirty rice. I cooked up some white rice (woo-hoo carbs!!) and added chili powder, garlic, freshly ground pepper, and paprika for seasonings. It turned out really well.

We ate out on the deck last night, and once the sun was not directly over head it was quite the lovely evening.


On my plate: grilled chicken (two pieces) a roasted orange pepper, the veggie medley from the night before, and some ‘dirty’ rice. It was quite a good (and well balanced) meal. I am excited for tonight’s dinner – more left overs!

For dessert last night I took 1/3 cup of plain yogurt, mixed in some chocolate PB2 and popped it in the freezer for about twenty minutes. After that, it was very cold (not frozen though) and quite refreshing. A low cal dessert – the perfect summer time treat.
