Running

Redemption

So, this morning I really thought this Sunday was going to be a waste. Somehow I was able to redeem myself completely. I have no idea how it happened.

At around noon I finally had breakfast / lunch. It was small and simple. A piece of whole wheat toast, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter (I measured it!) and 1 small banana.  Over the course of the morning I had two cups of coffee and water.

I spent a little while today cleaning my car which was covered in bird poo after I parked under a tree near Pizzico on Friday night when D and I went out to dinner to celebrate her birthday.  I was really happy to have the car cleaned – much needed.

After the car was in better shape, I changed into my running clothes, packed my gym bag and headed out to the gym. During my drive I decided to skip the elliptical machine and hit the road for a long run. I thought that by sleeping in I would have missed the window for a long summer run in August.  I was happy to see that it was still overcast, and only about 74 degrees. Not a bad day for a run!

I ended up running 7 1/4 miles on Sunday afternoon. The conditions were amazing. It was sprinkling some of the time – which was perfect to cool me off as I kept going. I did not concentrate on speed today, just on distance. So it was not about time, it was just about getting the mileage under my belt. I finished the 7.25 miles in 1 hour and 15 minutes. It was the furthest I have run since before my surgery. It was a pretty great feeling to get the run out of the way and it makes me feel like I might be in better shape for the half marathon in October. I have a few weeks to build up to 13.1 miles.

After the run, I showered at the gym, went to Whole Foods where I bought dinner and ingredients for the week of meals ahead. I prepped the morning smoothie and the lunch time salad. My mom boiled another chicken breast for my salad protein. I love having the protein part of my salad already worked out for the next few days – it is such a huge help.

I have only ten work days left until I go on vacation. Is it too early to start a count down? I cannot wait for ten days in a row of vacation. It is the longest time I have taken off from the office in years (besides being sick this past winter of course!). I am not sure what I am doing yet, but I really do not care. So far this summer has been rather amazing.  It has been filled with walks to lighthouses, ice cream, dinners, gallery openings and runs & races. A perfect balance. I hope your summer has been just as wonderful.
