A Change in Plan

Yesterday I left work early to go to see my surgeon and discuss my health issues. My GP thought they were directly related to my surgery, so when the problems got worse, I decided it was time to pay the doctor that saved my life a visit.

I waited a long time. And then was told exactly what I did not want to hear. I have to change my diet around. Less raw vegetables, beans and other legumes. Umm… hello, have you met me? That is basically a huge chunk of what I eat on a daily basis.

So, I have to redesign my diet. I am not happy about this but I am going to experiment and see what I can get to work. Nothing beats feeling horrible all the time, so I’m willing to give it a shot, I guess. I am still going to be eating raw vegetables in moderation (they are my favorite things!) and I will certainly not be giving up beans or anything else. But maybe I can pair them with other foods: proteins and healthy complex carbs to make a more balanced meal? I don’t know  –  the jury is still out.

Here is a quick recap of yesterday. I was not really in the mood, but here is what I had.

Breakfast wasn’t until 9:15 because I was not hungry. I had a Greek yogurt which kept me full until 11:30.

At 11:30 I had my morning snack of carrot sticks (yes! raw veggies!)

At 12:15 I had an amazing lunch:

In this dish are the following:

brown rice

sauteed mushrooms

1/3 chicken breast

sauteed spinach

and a little less than half of a sweet potato

I have to say – this was amazingly good. (more on who provided this meal in a post still to come!) It was so tasty and a perfect lunch on a lovely autumn day. I think the protein helped keep me full for a while. Which is a good thing because due to the way the rest of my afternoon and evening unfolded I did not have dinner until after 8 o’clock.

Dinner was also very good – a home cooked meal from mom. Spaghetti and 2 meatballs with some homemade sauce, too. When I have this meal I always think of family dinners in the winter. They were great and my parents made a mean spaghetti and sauce back in the day. It is still one of my favorites. (Thank you, mom!)

So, I had a pretty yuck day yesterday – even though I went to the gym and had a good workout. Exercise usually makes me feel better about things, but it did nothing to help yesterday. My fingers are crossed that Wednesday will be a better day.

See you in a bit.
