A night out in the North End

Hi Guys –

On Friday night my mom, sister, and Ben took me out to dinner in the North End. We all had a fantastic time and really enjoyed our dinner at Trattoria di Monica on Price Street.

We had a wonderful walk over from my sister’s place in Beacon Hill.  It was so nice to finally see the sun on Friday evening after an entire week of rain and clouds.

Trattoria di Monica is very small, so if you decide to go for a meal, make sure to call ahead for reservations! I think the restaurant holds about 25 – 30 guests!  The atmosphere is very intimate, and wonderful.

When we first arrived, we spent some time studying the menu and hearing the specials for the evening.  Monica’s usually has about five specials a night for entrees and a couple of appetizer and salad specials. They are always amazing!

On Friday night we ordered a salad and appetizer from the special options. The arugula salad with goat cheese, grilled portabella mushrooms and figs:

We also ordered bruschetta with fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil:

The presentation was beautiful, and the brushetta was amazing – I love fresh mozzarella cheese.

After splitting our dishes, here is what my plate looked like. I had a taste of everything!

A dinner out in the North End would not be complete without a great bread basket:

Ben ordered a sweet potato gnocchi, I had a bite of it and it was amazing.  My sister and mom each ordered the veal special. I do not eat veal, so I did not have at taste of this dish.

I ordered fettuccine con pollo marsala:

My dinner was sauteed chicken with mushrooms, red onions and prosciutto in a marsala wine sauce over fettuccine made on site! I could only eat about 1/3 of the dinner, and shared the rest with Ben, mom and my sister.

After a lovely dinner, we walked around the North End and after a while, we of course ended up at Mike’s Pastries. I wanted to go to Modern, but the rest of the fam voted for Mike’s, which was fine with me. I ordered a cannoli which I had 1/3 of on Saturday and the rest of it on Sunday night 🙂

After Mike’s we walked back to my sister’s and watched a long and exciting Red Sox game – which after 13 innings they finally won!

I hope you all had a great weekend. I’ll be back tomorrow.
