The Up Side of Guilt and Stress

Hi All –

Do any of you remember the movie The Up Side of Anger? That movie popped into my head as I typed out my blog title for tonight. Funny.

So, there is an up side to the guilt of not getting to the gym to run… the guilt seriously gets me there! On Sunday I ran three miles while watching the end of the disastrous Patriots game. Monday, I took the day off – but today I was back at it. I ran 3.4 miles today. Woo – hoo! I definitely feel so much better now that I am back into the routine. The running has definitely helped relieve some of my stress, too. :mrgreen:

Let’s recap the last two days:

I got to work bright and early on Monday morning, feeling sort of refreshed after a relaxing weekend. A weekend that saw a lot of sleeping time, thank goodness. My Monday morning started out with a bowl of Kashi oatmeal. Work was super busy, and amazingly enough this bowl of instant oats kept me going until I could break for lunch at 12:30.

Lunch was a turkey and spinach sandwich with dijon mustard. On the side I had a few veggie chips and an apple:

On Monday, my Rosie mug had a mixture of Emergen-C. I was still feeling run down (even after resting and sleeping this weekend!?) and this is a week at work where I could not get sick. Rosie to the rescue!

My afternoon snack was at 3:45… a yummie Luna cookie in peanut butter chocolate flavor 🙂

One cookie is 180 calories, 6 grams of fat (3 saturated), 3 grams of fiber and 10 grams of protein. It’s not a horrible thing to snack on in the afternoon, I guess.

Because I ran for the first time in a while on Sunday afternoon, I gave myself the day off from the gym on Monday. I really hate going to the gym on Mondays because it is always so busy by the time I get there. So many times I have to wait to get on a treadmill or elliptical machine. Ugh.

I stayed at work a little later than normal yesterday, and when I got home I decided to bake cookies:

I decided Tuesday would be a small intern appreciation day… which was a great reason for me to bake a few cookies and bring them in for my wonderful intern! I had a few issues with the new recipe I tried. The first batch of cookies burned a little bit (!?!?!? but my mom still enjoyed a few of them!) in the second batch I dropped a few (I was just having one of those days) but I managed to get a few cookies that were good enough to bring in to work, thank goodness!

Tuesday was another long day at work – but once I had my Kashi oatmeal, the day started improving 😀

My teaspoon of Barney Butter really made a huge difference and helped get my morning back on track! Yum… I finally had lunch at 1:30 this afternoon. Another turkey and spinach sandwich and a bag of baby carrots:

During my brief lunch break I ran (or quickly walked) over to Dunkin’ Donuts. I had a horrible headache this afternoon, and I knew a cup of D&D coffee would help.

I also had two cookies today, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. On my commute home today I had two plain rice cakes. Obviously, I couldn’t snap photos as I was driving. But they were lovely. 🙂 I got to the gym at around 6:15 tonight. I was so happy to see that there were several treadmills free when I got there. I had put my running clothes on before I left the office, so I just had to drop off my bag and coat in my locker and get right on to the treadmill. If I did not have my running clothes while I was driving, I might have been more likely to drive home instead of to the gym. Tonight I did my run / walk combination, with less walking and more running today, for a total of 3.4 miles. It felt great. I am so glad that I was able to get some exercise in today!

When I came home I was so excited that my mom had made french onion soup from scratch. What a treat (photos tomorrow, I promise!)
