Running

Bad Work Day, Great Run

Oh my goodness. Do you ever just have one of those days that you do not ever want to think about again!? Well, my day was not that bad, but the morning got off to a pretty horrible start. I slept really well last night (I love spring because it cools down at night and it is soo comfy to have my windows open a bit – great sleeping weather!) but for some reason it was really hard to get up this morning. I had sort of a lazy Sunday (but I had a great run, too!) so I cannot figure out why I couldn’t just get myself out of bed!

So… I started Monday morning behind the eight ball, I guess. I showered, got dressed, threw my lunch together, prepared my travel mug of coffee and ran out the door with my huge work bag (I must start trying to par down the weight and size of this bag, I think), my lunch bag, my two water bottles, coffee cup, running shoes and my tee shirt, running shorts all in my hands. Totally shocking that I spilled part of my morning coffee onto my pants as I was getting in the car. Just shocking. (I’m kidding – it was an accident waiting to happen. You can only hold so much stuff when you have two arms!) Thankfully I was wearing a pair of gray pants, and they aren’t ‘all that’ so I totally did not care that I had spilled a bit of coffee on them.

I got on the road at 6:50 or so. At least twenty minutes behind schedule. I am only going to mention this ONE TIME for the record and then we will never discuss it again. It. Took. Me. Two. Hours. To. Get. To. Work. This. Morning. I got to my desk at 8:45 and I wanted to quit my job. I wanted to scream. I wanted to pull my hair out.

Instead, I bought a cinnamon muffin and enjoyed breakfast. 🙂 I felt a little weird cheering myself up with an uber insane muffin. Oh well, it sort of worked, after I got over the guilt of eating such a thing. It was basically like eating a piece of cake or something for breakfast. But I will tell you one thing – I was not hungry until lunch time came around. That never happens to me!

Lunch was eaten at 12:30 today. Mom made her awesome egg salad last night (hard boiled egg, celery, vinegar, dijon mustard – no mayonnaise!) This egg salad is the BEST. I ate it on a Joseph’s pita.

I highly recommend these pitas:

My stress – relieving eating habits continued:

The bag of sun chips was 210 calories. Yum! When you never have chips, even though you love them, when you do have them, it is quite a treat.

Somehow, my day at work finally ended. Work has been stressful for the last few days. Stressful Mondays really stink. The good news of the day is that I redeemed the rest of my day! Somehow, the commuting gods were shining on me, and I got home in 40 minutes. Yes!! This is what my commute should be. Somehow I found enough energy to run. I needed to relieve the stress in a productive manner, and not by eating junk food. I ran 3.2 miles in 30 minutes. It was pretty great. When I first started running, I felt tired, sore from yesterday’s hilly run. But after the first mile (and my quick stretching break at the one mile mark) I started to feel better, and literally felt like I was hitting my stride. There is nothing like having a great run after a not so great day. Nothing like it!

After the run I stopped by Whole Foods. Bought: apples, greek yogurt, whole wheat pasta, Newman’s own marinara and mushroom sauce, Rudi’s english muffins, and Nature’s Path Hemp Granola and blueberries. Yum.

I got home a few minutes after 7. I drank a glass of milk to ease my hunger. I snacked on peanuts and the rest of my awesome sesame sticks. I took a super quick shower and then got crackin’ on dinner. Ground turkey, tomato sauce, whole wheat pasta and a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese on top. It was great:

I’ve packed my lunch and I’m going to bed now. I am crossing my fingers for a better day tomorrow. Here’s to hoping, bloggies!
