Breakfast

Still Hot…

It is still so hot. But I’ve managed to do some eating, just barely.

Breakfast yesterday:

Chobani vanilla yogurt with blueberries, Kashi go lean crunch and a sprinkle of cinnamon:

Along side a piece of Arnold’s double protein bread and raspberry jam.

The next thing I had to eat was at dinner – and it was fantastic. Mark had a craving for 5 Guys Burgers and Fries…. since I have barely been eating anything lately, I decided it would be a perfect meal. I ordered the “small” cheese burger with lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, onions, pickles, mustard and ketchup. I didn’t eat anything for the rest of the day:

I don’t know about you – but I really do not like the fries at 5 Guys. I consider myself so lucky. I can go to 5 Guys and get a great burger and be super happy – no empty calories are consumed by eating fries… there are plenty in the burger of course. Oh, also in case you were not aware if you order a “burger” at 5 Guys you get two hamburgers, not one. So I always order a “small”. 🙂

Yesterday was yet another sweltering day in the Providence area. Mark has been sick with a cold, so we’ve been home most of the weekend. I needed a project in the house to keep me busy. It was too hot to go outside most of the day. So, to pass the time I took an inventory of my cooking equipment. Then I made a list of the things I will need to purchase one day to have a complete chef’s kitchen. It was a lot of fun! To aid me in the project I consulted my all time favorite chef – Mark Bittman. At the beginning of his cookbook How to Cook Everything, there is a list of kitchen essentials. I love his list because he does not go overboard. If you have seen his kitchen, you know he does not have a ton of space, so his list of tools is really the essential list.

I spent a lot of time yesterday leafing through my cookbooks (mostly Bittman, but others, too) and dreaming of things I could cook if the weather ever cooled down again. Soups have really been getting my attention for some reason. Weird, right?

Today I went to my friends’ pool for a quick swim. I consulted with Tim about some recipes, and then I went to the grocery store. I spent 37 dollars and have enough food to get us through the week, I think….

Tonight we are having beef tacos out of the America’s Test Kitchen cookbook. I am so excited to try this recipe! I will report back tonight or tomorrow on how the recipe went. I am now off to read, get a pedicure and cook… oh, and to hydrate of course. Gotta [not] love this heat.
