January 2011

Hi there blog readers:

I am sorry for my extended absence from the blog. I have missed writing and more importantly cooking and eating great food. 😦

In the past few weeks I have been on the BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce and toast). It has been nothing to write home about, let me tell you. Here is one photograph that captures my culinary life these days:

Seriously – and for the record, I only could eat half of the banana on the plate.

Slowly I started branching out a bit:

The soft boiled egg was my new best friend. Have you ever had one?? They can be tricky to master (or maybe it was the medication I was on!) but they are lovely. Perfect with toast, an seasoned with just a small touch of salt and some freshly ground pepper.

Today I was able to eat the all American breakfast (which is simple but boring):

Cereal with soymilk. I also made myself a soy latte (made with coffee not espresso). Up until yesterday, I had not had coffee since the week before Thanksgiving. I’m only having a small amount now, but I am enjoying it so much. 🙂

I have been wanting to bake cookies for weeks now. Perhaps I will get around to it this week. I will not be able to eat the cookies, but I hope to figure out something to do with them.

It has been snowing a lot this winter. I have cabin fever. We had snow Friday night and Saturday night and now they are calling for more snow on Tuesday. Not that I am planning any outdoor activities these days. Instead I’m curling up with books and watching the snow:

I hope you all are having a great start to 2011. I will be back on a more regular basis now. See you soon!

  1. Good to see you writing some for the blog. Could you make rice pudding? It’s rice, of course, with milk and egg. You can make it in a crockpot. If you are allowed a little cinnamon, that’s pretty good. It is one way to eat white rice that might not otherwise have much flavor.

    1. Rice pudding sounds like a very good idea, Marilyn! Bread pudding also sounds like a good idea because we have a lot of bread around here 🙂
