Happy Tuesday evening, everyone. I’ve reached the half way point of my work week which is a good feeling. Tomorrow is my prescribed day of rest…
This morning I took the train to work. It was a nice ride, I read my book on nook for the first few minutes and then I ‘rested’ my eyes for the remaining trip. I did not fall asleep…
I do not know if this is true for everyone, but I know a few people who have ‘commuting habits’ (myself included). I do not like to take coffee from home when I take the train to work. Perhaps it is because I like to “rest my eyes” during the trip in to Boston, and I am always worried that I will spill my travel mug. I also do not like to have the extra baggage on my way home (it is amazing how things add up when you are walking 1.3 miles to and from the train). One of my best friends refuses to get on public transit (the subway, commuter rail, etc) without a water bottle. I am with her on that, you never know what might happen. (Are we weird?!) I would also never board a train without something good and compelling to read or listen to, most of the time both. I always travel with my nook and my iPhone and / or iPod.
So, once I got off the train I stopped by the APB at South Station and picked up my ‘usual’ a medium hot coffee to go.
Thankfully I did not have to wait long for the bus from South Station to my office, and I got to my desk a couple of minutes after 8 o’clock this morning. Fun times.
I enjoyed my coffee so much while I was going through my daily e-mails and checking my voicemails. I really like starting my day even earlier than 8 o’clock – when I drive to work I tend to get in around 7am – but for the relaxation of the train, I will start my day an hour later from time to time. 🙂
At 9:30 I paused for breakfast. I grabbed my Stoneyfield strawberry yogurt and mixed in my flax and pumpkin granola. What a fantastic combo! I am so gald that I have found my taste for yogurt since the days when I was sick and I hated all food 🙂
I was thankful for a busy work day. It was lunch time before I knew it! I was so excited for my lunch, I could not wait to dig into it. But before I had my salad, I went with my colleague who had to buy a sandwich for lunch. I tagged along with her and bought myself another coffee, this time a small size. I cringed when I realized that I today I spent almost four dollars on coffee. Hmm.
But back to my wonderful salad!!
The salad was made up of spinach, a hard boiled egg, one piece of crumbled bacon, red pepper, carrots, and cucumber. I made a different dressing last night. Sesame seed oil, apple cider vinegar, a pinch of sugar and a SUPER TINY smidge of salt. (You do not need a lot of salt in this dressing when you have bacon on your salad!) My colleagues were a little jealous of my salad today, I have to tell you!
My afternoon snack was supposed to be part of my lunch but I did not need it right away. It was one piece of whole wheat bread with raspberry jam and bit of peanut butter. I had my half sandwich around 2 o’clock this afternoon.
At four o’clock I left work, and thoroughly enjoyed this new Lärabar flavor: peanut butter chocolate chip. It was a very dense bar (as most Lärabars are in the most wonderful of ways!) and it kept me going until I had dinner at 8 o’clock tonight.
I walked to the train from my office which takes about 20 minutes or so – it’s a little over a mile. I got on the train heading home at 4:30 today and got off the train around 5:30. Then I got in my car and went straight to the gym. I biked for about seven minutes as a warm up, and then I did the elliptical for 20 minutes and burned about 180 calories. It was the first time I did the elliptical machine since my surgery. It did not feel all that great on my abs (too much up and down!?) so I did not want to push it and stopped after twenty minutes. The only thing that stinks about getting to the gym a few minutes before 6 o’clock is that everyone else is already there!! I was lucky to find anything that was free when I started my workout. But I am glad I did something rather than nothing.
Dinner tonight was as planned – a tuna melt. I snacked on a few whole grain Goldfish crackers as I prepared and cooked the sandwiches. The melt was very satisfying with lettuce, cheese, tomato, and tuna. It was great, but I did not eat until 8 o’clock tonight which is a little on the late side.
So… when I was coming into the house after a rather long day, I realized I forgot my lunch bag on the train today. I am so sad. I loved my lunch bag for four great years. Of course it could have been worse – it could have been an iPhone or something. Anyone have an idea where I can find a Built lunch bag??? 😦
I hope you all had a great day – it’s almost Hump Day! See you tomorrow when I will report on my breakfast of oatmeal. Until then…
