Weekend

Wow, this weekend totally got away from me. I hate it when that happens. . . but I did have a lot of fun this weekend, a lot of unplanned fun. Where to start?

I’ll start off with the good news. I had a post op appointment on Friday and after months of not being able or allowed to run I finally [FINALLY] got the ok to start running again… slowly. I was thrilled to hear this. After my doctor’s appointment I went straight to the gym and got in the treadmill. I walked and jogged and finished 3.2 miles in 45 minutes. I definitely did not want to push myself too much – it would not have been funny to go too fast and too hard the first day back. So, I tried to take it easy.

It felt great to get back into it.

Friday night I was going to make whole wheat pizza. But when we got home from the gym, we had a message from our friends inviting us for dinner. I am so glad that we went! For dinner we had seared scallops over a gluten free pasta with lemon and olive oil and artichokes. It was the most amazing dinner – especially after covering 3.2 miles (the longest I have done since being sick). It was a great reward.

Saturday I woke up at 9 and started my day the way I had planned. I went to a sporting goods store and bought a couple of new running shorts that actually fit me, along with some more stuff that I needed. I got home and started getting ready for a run. But then we received a call from an extended family member that was in Providence for the afternoon. I had to table my run and we had a fun family day. After being outside in the cold, windy weather cheering for Yale and Brown boats, we finally ended up at Red Stripe where I enjoyed half of a grilled cheese and a bowl of roasted tomato soup. It was the most perfect food since I was nearly frozen 🙂

We got home from this impromptu get together at 6 o’clock Saturday evening. I had dinner plans with my great friend Danielle at 7 PM. We had planned to go to Ama’s on the West Side of Providence. Ama’s is fantastic. It is a tiny place on Luongo Square. I ordered the vegetarian udon noodles – they came with sauteed shiitake mushrooms, tofu, spinach and scallions. They were so fantastic. I also enjoyed a glass of pinot noir.

After a couple of really busy days, I was sort of exhausted. Unfortunately, I turned off my alarm this morning and went right back to sleep. The next time I woke up it was 11:45 in the morning. Oops. So, now I’m getting myself ready to go out for a jog. We shall see how it goes 🙂

I hope you are all having a great weekend, too!
