Morning Run Routine..?

Due to my work schedule, I am not that much of a morning runner. I tend to leave the house by 6:15 to get to work on the days that I drive and I leave by 6:30 on the days that I take the train. I am not a morning person, so I can’t really see myself getting up at 4 o’clock to get a morning run in on the days that I go to work.

On the days that I do not go to work I definitely love getting my mileage accomplished in the morning hours. A lot of the time I run in the morning on the weekends, and the last few weeks when I have had Wednesdays off from work, I have done some running in the morning.

The one thing I am always trying to perfect is my morning run routine. It is such a struggle for me. A few times I have run without eating breakfast. I had a package of GU instead. It has worked for me, but I have definitely felt like I should have eaten more and gotten some good energy from natural food instead. The last run I did with just GU in my system was horrible (very low energy) so today I woke up and the first thing I did was make a light breakfast. I am hoping that if I wait an hour and then go for my run, things in my stomach will be settled 🙂

Today for breakfast I did not have oatmeal! I had a bowl with half a banana, a handful of Kashi Go Lean Crunch, and 1/3 cup of blueberry Kefir. What a great combination. It feels like a great spring and summer time breakfast to me!

I also had a small-ish cup of coffee with my morning bowl of goodness… my body needs a little bit of caffeine in the morning.

I have a few things on the agenda today. #1 on the list??? Find a pair of flip flops – this is seriously important! In the summer when I am finished with a few miles of running, I cannot wait to take my sneakers and socks off and get my feet into flip flops. I have two pairs, and I cannot find either of them.

Happy hump day everyone! I am off – see you in a bit.
