Running

Encouraged to have a good day…

Saturday started out with some much needed encouragement. Brilliantly, on Friday night my friend Ned told me to call him when my alarm went off on Saturday morning. My alarm was going off at 6:30 in the morning so that I could get up and get ready to run early in order to beat this oppressive heat we have been suffering from this week.

My alarm went off at 6:30 and I could not believe that I was thinking about getting up so early. I remembered to call Ned. The first thing I said was, “I think I’m just going to go back to sleep. I’m really tired.” Or not so much. “No, just get up and get ready and go. You will feel better and you’ll be really happy to get the run over with so early in the day.” Ned replied to me. I might have rolled my eyes at him on the other end of the iPhone. I am not sure, I was half asleep.

But the words of encouragement were exactly what I needed. Somehow I rolled out of bed and started getting ready for my run. My shorts and shirt were already laid out, along with my running shoes and socks. I was out on the trail by 7:15 and it was (only?) 78 degrees and probably 90% humidity. It was not exactly pleasant – but I did get my 3 1/2 mile run in.

After the run I went to BSC to shower and change. Then I headed to Starbucks to enjoy an hour reading the Times and the nook and sipping on a 1% iced latte. It was a reward for getting up so early and getting the run done with before 8 AM. 🙂

I snacked on a mini Larabar, too. I love the coconut flavor.

After sitting around for an hour reading, I headed off to the Farmers’ Market. It was a pretty busy day even though it looked like it was going to start raining at any moment.

I walked around and picked up some produce to make a ratatouille on Sunday…

Japanese egg plant, summer squash, zucchini, onions, tomato, and a bunch of basil for pesto. I also snagged a mini loaf of freshly made bread from Seven Stars. After I was done shopping, Danielle met me at the market and we walked around again. We saw The Cupcakerie and stopped to explore some of the cupcakes of the day. I sampled the Garden Rose infused cupcake:

It looked beautiful and tasted the same. The the rose flavored butter cream frosting was pretty amazing.

Danielle and I were also thrilled to find the Providence juice truck at the end of the farmers’ market block.

Danielle ordered a juicedrink and I continued to enjoy my water bottle 🙂 I had a sip of the juice and it was extremely refreshing. All in all it was a great Saturday.

I’m off to cook up some of my produce from the market.
