Hey everyone. So, I am officially on vacation for the next several days. Vacation started at 3:20 PM on Friday. Yesterday AFM and I spent the day getting ready for hurricane Irene. One thing I love about upstate New York is that there are so many farmer’s markets. We hit up a great market yesterday and got a huge, heavy bag of amazing local goods (including wine, bread and locally made peanut butter!)
Last night we had an amazing dinner of surf and turf along with an incredible salad of heirloom tomatoes, cucumbers, shallots, scallions seasoned with salt, pepper, balsamic and olive oil. All of the vegetables were locally grown and purchased at the farmer’s market earlier. I loved this salad, and I cannot wait to make it again. (AFM made it last night, of course)
Dinner was phenomenal. Lobster tails on the grill and steaks. My plate looked like this:
I ate a little less than half the steak, and all of my lobster 🙂
The rain started early this morning, around 2 AM. I woke up at 7 o’clock and AFM and I started breakfast. I was in charge of making coffee and using a paper towel for a coffee filter (we thought we had done a great job getting all of the supplies for the storm – but we totally forgot coffee filters!). Thankfully the coffee was a success. A couple of months ago, I asked AFM to be the official egg man and today he lived up to his title. I had two soft boiled eggs while he had two poached eggs. Along with bacon and an amazing piece of toast from the local farmer’s market. AFM’s plate:
After breakfast we hunkered down in front of MSNBC with our nooks and mugs of coffee. We are riding out the storm with power in the house (so far). We are having a lot of rain and a good amount of wind. I hope you are all surviving Irene, too.
I’m pretty much hunkered down for the day. But I hope to get back to my vacation and good weather tomorrow. See you soon!
I am happy to cook anything I can for you and you were/are a rock star for the paper towel solution.
