Today we gave the month of August and the training we want to do a name. From here on out, August will be known as Mega August. It is going to be awesome. (or that is what we are telling ourselves.)
Breakfast this morning was oatmeal again with a spoonful of Barney Butter:
The oat and nut butter combo held me over until noon today. So impressive! My schedule for the day was a little out of whack. Instead of my normal lunch time, I had a meeting at 1 o’clock where lunch was being served. I love meetings when sandwiches are on the agenda! But I knew that to get through until 1 o’clock I needed a snack. I planned my day accordingly.
Cherries and a small bag of nuts was on the menu.
I really liked this combination of nuts. Pistachio, almonds and peanuts. This was a snack bag from one of my recent races. I also went for a walk, we didn’t walk as far as usual and it was about 25 minutes. It was nice to be outside.
When I got ready to go to the lunch meeting, I laid out some ground rules for myself. I could have two half sandwiches (the usual) but when it came to the other snacks provided I told myself that I had to decide between the 40% reduced fat Cape Cod potato chips and a cookie. I could not have both. The last time we had a lunch meeting I had a sandwich, chips and later TWO cookies! I did not want to eat for the rest of the day.
I was so pleased to see that there were other options at the lunch. I had a half of a turkey sandwich, and I took a tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil sandwich. Usually this sandwich is my favorite but today the bread was soggy and I only had a bite or two of it. But i filled up my plate with extra tomatoes, red onions, lettuce and fresh grapes. I loved the fresh options that were provided at lunch. I went for the potato chips and somehow used my will power to skip the cookie options. It was especially hard because there were about twenty cookies left over after the meeting!
As I drove home I drank water and ate a few Trader Joe’s cat cookies. I got to the gym, changed and went out to run. I ended up running four miles today and I was really pleased with myself. It was hot and humid out, but I got through it. After taking a bit of a break from running outside it felt great to finally get out and get some running accomplished.
After the run I ate a mini Clif bar. I got home, stretched, iced my knee, showered and had dinner. I was so lucky that mom made a great post run dinner – a salad with lots of protein in it!
A hard boiled egg, 3 ounces of light tuna, cucumbers, lettuce and cherry tomatoes. Oh – and two small pieces of French bread. This was such an amazing dinner! And to think I was about to go home and make mac & cheese out of a box. This protein is going to make muscles feel pretty good tomorrow, I think (and hope!). Also I am looking forward to sleeping well tonight. I think between the two miles I walked at lunch, a sort of long day at work (on not much sleep) and then a four mile run after work, I feel like I am going to sleep really well tonight!
I hope you all had a great hump day. I am signing off – I have a lot of Olympics to watch tonight! Good night, y’all!
Your dinner plate is beautiful! It looks like a presentation like you’d get at a restaurant.
Thank you Marilyn! The presentation was all mom 🙂 I thought it was lovely, too! (and it tasted great!)
