Calorie Counting?

Hey All –

Wow, I feel that after a week of slacking (but for good reason) I am back on track!  After my afternoon snack, I did go to the gym. I did 30 minutes on the treadmill and a half hour of weight training.  It felt great – and I was proud of myself for going to the gym on a Monday.  Usually I try to avoid the gym on Monday because SOOOOO many people go at the start of the week.

I got home and started to get dinner ready. I made another large salad, with carrots, tomato and cucumber along with a cup and a half of romaine lettuce.  Along with the salad I had a cup of butternut squash soup (I measured out a cup today, I am testing myself to see what I think a cup is and what a cup actually is – I was pretty much right on) and a microwaved whole wheat tortilla and low fat Mexican cheese (1/3 cup of cheese – measured!) It was a great dinner. Here is what it looked like:

Today I was thinking a lot about “diets” and eating habits. I decided that I should be consuming about 1500 calories a day. I am certainly NOT an expert on diets, etc. but I wanted to see what would happen if I tried to eat only 1500 calories a day. Today was the first test.

Before I started dinner, I knew that I had 715 calories left for the day (that’s sort of a lot) so I sort of thought I would not reach 1500 calories today – which was shocking to me!

My dinner measured out to be:

50 calories for salad

230 for my whole wheat wrap and cheese (130 for the wrap, 100 for the cheese)

90 calories for the soup

and a special 33 calories for the Dove dark chocolate piece I had following dinner 🙂 (I am all for enjoying almost everything in moderation!) This brought my entire dinner up to 403 calories.

After cleaning up the kitchen, beginning to think about what to bring for lunch and breakfast tomorrow, and taking my post – gym shower (with my new un-scented soup from Whole Foods  –  I hope it will make a difference!) I enjoyed a 100 calorie Vitamuffin top. YUM. I seriously love these things. The vitamuffin top was 100 calories, 1.5 grams of fat and had 5 or 6 grams of fiber… sweet!

I can definitely see these awesome things becoming my new go – to healthy dessert!  Ohh soooo good!

Anyhow, it’s nearly 10 pm so I’m getting ready for bed. I’m hoping to get a little bit of reading done before I hit the hay. I have about 100 pages left of Loving Frank. The book is really wonderful.

I hope you’re all having a good Monday – see you tomorrow!
